Intro to Aliens - I mean: UFO Fridays

Welcome to the first edition of UFO Fridays! The idea is to work on those projects that have either been around forever, or are just not getting done - Un Finished Objects. They're pushed to the back burner indefinitely, I've lost interest in stitching them, or they're projects I've inherited one way or another (of which I have two).

One is a Valentine's Heart I started in 2011? Something like that. It's nearly finished but needs that final push. It's entirely white on a red fabric, and very pretty. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it once it's finished, but that's another story.

Second is a 'new' project I inherited from my Mother just yesterday. It's a teddy bear and sleeping kitten on a wicker chair that she started long ago, for my sister I think. The colours in the wicker chair are nearly impossible to tell apart except in noon day light, apparently, and thanks to a few mistakes and time slipping away, the project never got past the halfway mark, and it's up to me to finish it. Hopefully I'll do it well!

Third is a Halloween pumpkin project I started one or two years ago. There's a massive mistake in the upper right hand corner that I simply cannot find, and so has been left in the three-fourths done stage for months. Time to find it, correct it, and finish it!

So these are the UFOs that will feature weekly until their eventual completion to be replaced with others, I'm sure! There is one other pattern that is of a young girl, which I bought as a half-finished project from a store. An elderly woman who was an avid cross stitcher had begun her, and never finished her, though since moving house I've been unable to locate the piece. If I do find it, I'll add it into the mix and keep my Fridays busy!

On another note, please stop by my finally updated DeviantArt account! I've had the account for four months, and never did anything with it, though I was drawing. I've begun adding art to my account now, and have a few more in the works. Rather than cluttering up this blog with my drawing (since it's not cluttered at all when I blog about Asian dramas starting next Tuesday), I'll just leave a link to the account, and hope you'll be nice enough to take a peek! (: Plus I'm pretty proud of my username there. XD

See you again Tuesday, and may your stitching be tangle free! ~x~

Blog Schedule?

Trolling around on the internet today got me thinking - what if I had a schedule to keep me busy?

I know that sounds like a 'duh!' thought, but it had never occurred to me before. What I mean by schedule here is that I'd have WIP (work-in-progress) Wednesday posts on projects, TV Tuesdays to blog out my love of Korean and Taiwanese dramas, etc., etc.....Would that be worthwhile? That way I have a goal to work toward, rather than the ever-so-motivating 'get a blog post written sometime,' 'get this much stitching done someday soon...' XD

Just a rough sketch of what I might do:

TV Tuesdays - reviews, thoughts, and giggles about Korean & Taiwanese Dramas
WIP Wednesdays - updates on cross stitch projects specifically
UFO Fridays - projects that I've inherited/bought half-done, or projects I otherwise would never get done

I could add or take away (or both) but I think I'll stick mostly to this schedule. If I actually get it done, that's three posts a week - not at all bad.

I'd love to find a stitch along sort of project, or a monthly sampler of some sort to have something to keep me occupied, but I suppose I've got enough on my plate as it is without starting another new piece. Oh the life of the procrastinator and impulse beginner!

So then, until tomorrow with the pictures of the UFO projects! ~x~

Pictures & Amigurumi

For all my attempts, this border seems to be getting bigger every time I look at it! I've taken a break from the border, and instead begun below, starting on the other side of the pattern for the bottom half of the Maiden. And immediately hit problems! No matter how I count the pattern and what I've done, I can't catch where I went wrong, but it just somehow doesn't match up to the previous work. >_< Tomorrow I'm going to begin my search for a solid colour to replace the blend work in the border and fruit/grain bundle in earnest. Am I the only one to have blending not turn out well, as in never turning out well on any project with any colours? The only success I've had at it were the two incredibly close tints of green used in the wreath around her head. Oh boy.

I have discovered the awesomeness of Amigurumi over my absence as well! Check out some of these cuties!

As you can probably tell, I'm a Doctor Who fan. XD

Anyway, Amigurumi is the art of crocheting adorable things! Okay, maybe not in those words exactly, but they are knitted or crocheted dolls, usually with faces and made cute (like the banana peel up there). Really super adorable. What's been slowing me down on Autumn has been this, as I've been attempting to create my own Zodiac doll based off these pictures on Etsy. No, I haven't bought any patterns, I'm just going by the pictures for the colour schemes and what goes where. This awesome free pattern on a basic doll body has been a great help as well. Let me tell you though - mine did not come out as good as hers did!!

Short post this time, but more in the next one! I've added plenty to the Freebies list during my absence. The ones by Vermillion Stitchery are limited-time patterns: they have a whole year or sequence of similar patterns, such as a snowman for each month of the year, or a doorway that is decorated for each month and a particular holiday when it applies. These patterns are totally free, and you can get them in colour, black & white, or for machine stitching. However, they are only up on the website for two years - then they take them down, and offer them for sale again. So if you think you might be interested, go check them out. There are three links for the three sets of freebies, so it won't take you long to decide whether you want to stitch any of them or not, and snap them up while you can!

Okay. So, not the pictures promised (I should stop promising them DX), but some pictures, as well as lots of lovely new patterns for you to swing by and look at. Hopefully there will be something to tickle your fancy, but if you have a specific theme or idea you have in mind (e.g. Halloween, Snails, Cute, Boats, etc.) post a comment, and I'll do my best to hunt you up some to fill in the gaps! Hopefully I'll have at least one link to patterns for every letter of the alphabet soon. (: Look forward to it!!

Until the next post, may your stitching be tangle free! ~x~
